Former Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best, whose career was cut short by brain injuries, has filed suit against the NFL and helmet maker Riddell in Wayne County (Mich.) Circuit Court.
In a 90-page court filing, Best says that the NFL failed to protect players from concussions. He suffered at least five in his playing career.
The suit says that the league "was aware of the evidence and the risks associated with repetitive traumatic brain injuries ... but deliberately ignored and actively concealed the information."
The NFL, which has been sued by more than 4,800 former players over concussions in recent years, declined comment on the lawsuit.
Best, the 30th pick in the 2011 draft, was released by the Lions prior to the 2013 season.
Cowboys: Defensive coordinator Monte Kif-fin was demoted in favor of defensive line coach Rod Marinelli, and Scott Linehan was hired as the passing game coordinator who will call plays. He replaces Bill Callahan, who will remain offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.

Dolphins: Miami and assistant general manager Brian Gaine parted ways, a move that comes shortly after Gaine wasn't hired as the team's general manager.
