Eight Killed After Armed Men Storm Corinthians Soccer Fan Club in Brazil

Armed men have killed eight people in a raid on a Sao Paulo soccer fan club that has close links to a notorious, now-closed prison, Brazilian police said.

Police said witnesses told them that about midnight on Saturday three gunmen stormed the dark and gritty site where Corinthiansโ€™ fan group Pavilhao 9 meets underneath a highway overpass. They ordered the victims to lie face down on the ground and shot seven in the head. An eighth man was shot but tried to escape, reached a gas station and was later taken to a nearby hospital where he died.

Burnley To Ban 21 Fans For Life After Violence in Town

Burnley are to ban 21 people from the club for life following violence in the town last year. The clubโ€™s decision comes after those sanctioned were convicted and given football banning orders at Preston crown court earlier this week.

Nineteen of those involved were also given prison sentences ranging from five to 22 months.

Local authorities have canceled a traditional May Day international cycling race around Frankfurt following the arrest of a couple and the discovery of bomb-making material in their home near the route. The Hesse state crime office said late Thursday that the race was called off because of "indications of a possible threat to the population."

The suspected Islamist extremist and his wife were arrested overnight, and police found a bomb, a firearm, ammunition, and chemicals that can be used to make explosives.

A man died after being hit by a rubber bullet and 14 police officers were injured in clashes that erupted Saturday during a Polish league football match in the south of the country.

Supporters of the local Concordia Knurow team stormed onto the pitch during the first half against Ruch Radzionkow, with the home team trailing 4-1.
