The Coney Island YMCA is part of a larger, 200,000-square-foot mixed-use development that also includes 195 affordable housing units. The Y is positioned at the base of the residential towers, with parts of the roof serving as outdoor amenity space for tower residents.

Serving as a new community center, the YMCA is an integral part of the revitalized historic neighborhood included in the city’s Coney Island strategic plan. The Y also will be an important part of safety for the waterfront community, offering indoor, year-round swim lessons to all regardless of ability to pay.

The colorful contemporary facility is inspired by the entertainment history of Coney Island. A two-story main spine houses an open stair and terminates in an open multigenerational center. A full gymnasium and several multipurpose group exercise studios house a variety of programs for the community.
