Area / Square Feet: 48,044

WNB Architects designed Platte County’s original indoor recreation system in 2004. Within a few years, memberships had far outpaced original projections, prompting major additions and renovations, including a 49,000-square-foot expansion of its Platte County North facility.

Focusing on member requests, existing programs and specific community needs, the expansion was designed to flexibly accommodate current wellness needs and trends, with spaces that could adapt as these requirements evolve. A new natatorium features a 25-yard-by-25-meter, eight-lane competitive pool with a submersible bulkhead system. The competitive natatorium includes 1-meter diving, seating for more than 200 spectators, a computerized timing system, team rooms, officials’ rooms, common spaces and concessions. A space designed to house future water slides is currently used for special events, birthday parties and program space.

A new gymnasium sized for basketball and volleyball offers seating for more than 200 spectators and is used for other community programs. The original mini-gym was converted into a two-story children’s play area, studio space and a dedicated spin studio. The addition also includes an elevated track with multiple views and a new generational center offering a teaching kitchen with local broadcasting capabilities.
