The Stew and LeNore Hansen Football Performance Center is comprised of three components: the Richard O. Jacobson Football Operations Building, an indoor practice facility and the renovated Ronald and Margaret Kenyon Outdoor Practice Field. Together, the three components create a self-contained, comfortable and convenient year-round training facility. The new complex allows for the entire football program to be closely connected. With limited practice time, the facility allows for maximized efficiency.

The 76,000-square-foot operations facility features spaces for players and coaches, including strength training space, classrooms, locker rooms and therapy space for athletes, as well as offices, video editing space and meeting rooms for staff. That facility connects to the indoor practice facility, where radiant heating underneath the synthetic turf, natural ventilation and daylighting help to reduce energy consumption — contributing to the facility’s LEED Gold certification.

The facility was designed with recruits in mind, as a choreographed circulation path immerses visitors in the history and tradition of Iowa football. From the trophy cases — including a separate case for Nile Kinnick’s Heisman Trophy — to the NFL wall, to an overlook of the indoor practice facility, recruits and visitors get a sense of the program’s past with an eye toward the future.
