Shell Place is a multi-use sports venue located on MacDonald Island Park, a significant recreation resource for the Edmonton area that is operated by the non-profit Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo. MacDonald Island Park also features the Suncor Community Leisure Centre, indoor activities, and outdoor activities such as field sports, golf and nature walking. Shell Place is anchored to the island’s other amenities via a convenient indoor pedway.

Shell Place features a multi-use synthetic turf football field, a synthetic turf baseball complex, and expandable seating for thousands of spectators. The facility extends the playing season for many sports groups and provides a venue for major events that had previously relied on temporary facilities.

The design of Shell Place celebrates Northern Alberta’s big sky, and the impact of the Northern Lights on the spirit of the region. Wood Buffalo is a winter city and Shell Place uses themes that embrace the cold climate as an opportunity to provide design inspiration, functional shelter and connectivity between existing projects on the Island and within the City Centre.
