Indoor Rowing Training Center – University of Oklahoma
Indoor Rowing Training Center – University of OklahomaNorman, OK 2016
The new Indoor Rowing Training Center houses a 12,000-square-foot practice facility for the University of Oklahoma rowing team and a 13,000-square-foot storage warehouse for the athletic department. The rowing practice facility includes a dynamic-propulsion rowing tank, an erg training room, a therapy room with hydrotherapy tanks, locker rooms, a laundry facility, a team meeting room and lounge, and office space.
The rowing tank features a high ceiling and ample daylighting. The tank itself accommodates up to 16 rowers at one time in a sunken pit between the water troughs. The perimeter deck around the tank enables the coaches to study the rowers’ technique from all angles and offer real-time feedback, which is nearly impossible to do when training in boats on the river. Large projectors and screens are utilized in the dynamic-propulsion rowing tank and erg training room to help simulate outdoor rowing experiences for the athletes.
The workout room is a large and flexible area with a high ceiling designed to accommodate 40 indoor rowing machines, which are linked together to enable coordinated team workouts with performance data available to the coaching staff.
The lobby offers visitors panoramic views of the dynamic-propulsion rowing tank and the erg training room. Between the showcase spaces at the front of the building and the athletic department storage warehouse at the rear are the support spaces for the rowing team.
