The City Centre Community Centre is an interior renovation of two stories of a four-story building attached to a residential development. The LEED Gold community center offers residents a variety of modern multipurpose spaces for a range of community recreation programs and services, tailored to residents of all ages.

Fitness programs such as group exercise, Zumba, table tennis, dance, yoga and martial arts are hosted in the two largest multipurpose rooms, while smaller multipurpose and meeting rooms can accommodate more-intimate group gatherings for clubs and meetings. The center also serves Richmond’s diverse cultural community with programming such as Tai Chi, Qigong sessions and exhibitions from local artists, as well as dedicated music and art rooms. Social programs for youths can be found in the social room, with space for a homework club and space for hanging out. This social room is also shared by seniors who utilize the space during daytime hours when youths are in school.

Materials used for the project were carefully selected with respect to their renewability, sustainability and environmental effects. With these factors in mind, Beetle Kill Pine and Forest Stewardship Council-certified wood harvested from socially and environmentally responsible forests were used throughout the project. The rarely used pine was specified for the linear wood ceilings.
