The addition to the Chace Athletic and Wellness Center provides the Bryant

University athletics department with a fully equipped sports medicine suite along with prominently located offices for athletics administration and the football program.

The design team visualized and created a building site out of limited campus real estate and expanded the support areas for the growing athletics department. An attractive new facade hides what was a blank red brick

wall, enhancing the campus arrival sequence and providing needed program space to benefit the entire department. The new offices and meeting rooms offer attractive views of the campus and a memorable impression on new recruits.

The addition also allowed some internal reshuffling and expansion of spaces within the existing Chace Center, resulting in the men’s and women’s basketball suites overlooking the competition courts; new offices for lacrosse, field hockey and baseball programs; as well was new meeting spaces for the entire department.

Taking advantage of its narrow footprint and need for efficiency, the functions within the sports medicine suite progress from the more public taping area to a treatment zone, and then to the rehabilitation areas, including a hydrotherapy room. Windows were carefully considered to balance the desired level of privacy with the introduction of natural light. Maple finishes were selectively used throughout, adding the warmth of natural wood while keeping the palette light.
