The Cleveland Cavaliers Practice Facility incorporates the most dynamic features from various training centers around the country with a rustic, contemporary aesthetic. Located on a wooded site just south of Cleveland, the building is not only the new headquarters for the NBA’s 2007 Eastern Conference champions, but a place for players and staff to call home.

A primary design objective was to create a warm atmosphere by blurring the line between interior and exterior. This was achieved by using heavy timber construction and large expanses of limestone and glass, allowing these exterior materials to penetrate the interior space. The large expanses of glass create multiple locations for daylighting and panoramic views. This natural aesthetic continues into interior finishes, which include makore and maple veneer millwork, granite counters throughout and a “spa-like” shower space for players that is clad entirely in African Blaze slate tiles. Oversized furniture in the executive offices and players’ lounge were upholstered in supple, tobacco-colored leather to enhance the “lodge” feeling.
