Slane Student Center Renovation and Addition - High Point University

High Point, NC
Construction Cost: $6.6 million
Area / Square Feet: 44,149 (addition)
Occupancy Date: August 2007

Connected to an existing threestory, 44,980-square foot student center, the two-story Slane Student Center addition boasts a neo-Georgian architectural style that reflects the campus’ early construction dating back to 1924. The Classical design promotes simplicity and harmony between the old and the new.

The existing building was renovated to include a welcome center, additional dining space and a café. The expansion is a multiuse space that includes a gymnasium, a weight room, group exercise rooms and an outdoor swimming pool, as well as a food court and a post office.

The challenge was to find a unique way of expressing and accommodating all of the varied program functions while still promoting the enjoyment of university users visiting the facility on a daily basis. This was accomplished through the use of high-end modern and durable materials. Interior palettes were chosen to reflect High Point University colors and take advantage of natural lighting. Flooring and furnishings maximize a smooth transition to adjacent spaces, allowing students and faculty to meet their needs for recreation, dining, work and play.
