The Strength and Conditioning Center represents a new identity for DSU athletics, and marks the beginning of the university’s commitment to enhance student life, strengthen the campus community and promote the recruitment of future student-athletes.

As Phase I of the campus master plan, this addition to an existing gymnasium, Memorial Hall, needed to energize the campus and provide students with an inspirational glimpse of future growth. The whimsical facade adds new dimension to Memorial Hall and announces the building’s individuality. While the brick and columns blend with the existing aesthetics of the campus, the contrasting blue siding immediately sets the facility apart. Artfully placed windows enhance the character of the building while infusing interior spaces with natural light.

Although the center fulfills a broad range of programmatic needs, the central volume is the two-story, 9,000-square-foot training area. Bright, contrasting colors stimulate students in this powerful space, with the vibrant color red repeated in the fitness equipment to help give the space a smaller, human scale.

In addition to the primary training area, the center also provides student-athletes with various support spaces, including locker rooms and lounges, a ticketing room, a control desk, and offices for coaches and support staff.
