The Hollywood West Sports Park was an obsolete community park that had outlived its usefulness and was underutilized by residents. An effort was undertaken to create a new community center and redevelop the park into a contemporary facility.

The existing park contained a baseball field, three soccer fields, and a concessions/restroom/storage building. The new park now boasts a baseball field, a field accommodating regulation soccer and football, a pair of intramural soccer fields, a skate park, a tot lot, an outdoor play area, covered seating, an outdoor performance stage, a concessions/restroom/storage building and a 10,195-square-foot community center. In addition, the old site’s 55 parking spaces were increased to 152.

One challenge of the site’s redevelopment was the preservation of approximately 75 oak trees, which were incorporated into the design to provide shade for the outdoor play area and performance-stage patrons.
