The Port St. Lucie Civic Center is arranged into two major components — the recreation/athletic side and the banquet/meeting side. The backbone of this blend is the central lobby, the lone point of public entry.

All athletic functions (including basketball, volleyball, racquetball, fitness center and lockers) as well as all recreation functions (teen room, dance labs and children’s program rooms) are immediately accessible from the check-in desk. As the most-used space, the basketball/volleyball courts form a center of activity. Flooring in the basketball court, fitness center and multipurpose rooms is made of recycled rubber for functionality and ease of maintenance. Floor tile and wall paint colors found in common areas highlight the interior design scheme, and the perimeter location of most activity and recreation spaces allow for abundant natural light. Corridors are terminated with fully glazed exit doors for orientation and additional natural lighting.

The site design integrates the center’s large public plaza, used for outdoor recreation and festival activities, with an adjacent public square. With its combination of hardscapes and landscapes representing an attractive destination for more than recreation, the center represents a visible landmark for city programming that all residents can enjoy.
