Ithaca College’s Athletics and Events Center encompasses three main activity spaces: an indoor field house, a natatorium and an outdoor turf field. The field house is designed to allow for multipurpose use, from tennis to track and field. The 81,000-square-foot outdoor lighted field provides a year-round synthetic surface for recreation, athletics and club teams. The natatorium houses a 50-meter-by-25-yard pool with one- and three-meter springboards and a 40-by-75-foot movable floor that allows for depth adjustments.

The building design and orientation establishes a strong connection with the beautiful rolling wooded landscape. A stone base and three types of metal panels help address the overall massing of the building, which uses three lighter shades of color in random order to provide texture. The vertical blue fin elements offer a rhythm to reduce the perceived length of the field house and pool.

Warm tones and textures of the entry plazas and building facade were extended in the stained concrete main hall and main circulation floors, and wood panel details on the wall and a wood-slatted ceiling add an inviting touch to the space.
