LEXINGTON ā€” The Lexington Parks and Recreation Department has finalized the design for a new BMX/Skate park, and the community will see the plans come to fruition next year.

Laura Duran, director of Lexington Parks and Recreation, said the department will start to bid out the project by the end of August and hopes to begin construction by the end of the year. She said depending on the weather and other factors, construction should take less than six months.

The skate/BMX park, which will be located at the former Radcliffe Park Pool, is the third project in the city's "re-creation of recreation" plan.

Previously, the city has developed the Lexington Aquatic Park at the former Hillside Pool on Forest Rose Drive, and redesigned Washington Park Pool into a splash pad. The final project is the development of a recreational center at the former Tri-City Distribution building on South Main Street.

The new BMX/skate park was designed by CLH Designs and Team Pain Skate Parks.

Team Pain is a Florida-based company that designs skate parks for municipal and government agencies, communities, production companies for motion picture and televised events, and professional skateboarders and BMX riders.
