Amazingly, more than 3 million kids are playing youth baseball this summer.
The number continues to spiral, and there is no end in sight.
Parents are supporters of youth baseball, urging their young to play a sport that is virtually injury free. The same is not true with high school football, which is losing participants.
Baseball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, with nearly 10 million playing. Its reach is especially wide in Asia.
Parents should know that their youngsters will learn through their peers how to act properly in a game situation. Perhaps most important is learning how to win and lose. So, go on and let them go. They could be a future Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle or Hank Aaron.
Little League was started in 1939 and can be found throughout the United States and around the world.
On another front, many fear that college football stadiums will become a relic of the past. Too many players are suffering serious injury and no medical solution appears on the horizon. Much will be written about the matter in the next few years.
On the baseball front, Major League Baseball will draw another giant attendance this season, with nearly 75 million fans clearing turnstiles, more than football and basketball combined.
