Trying to market a college football team coming off a 1-11 season can be a difficult challenge. But sometimes tough times can inspire the most creative solutions. Take this latest idea from the Purdue Boilermakers for example: The football team is running a promotion that will give fans the opportunity to have their mug plastered on the team's football helmet.
Hey @LifeAtPurdue.. buy a VIP card by 6/10 and get a photo of yourself on the @BoilerFootball helmet next season! pic.twitter.com/LFjz0y5gCt

According to Purdue's website, students who purchase the "VIP card" are eligible to send in a picture to be used for the helmet. All season ticket holders who renewed their season tickets online will also be given the opportunity to send in a photo for inclusion. The special helmets will be worn for the Boilermakers' game against Iowa in September. A digital copy of the final helmet sticker will be sent to fans pictured on the helmet following the game.
In a day and age when most schools have thrown tradition out the window in favor or bold, creative uniforms, this is not a bad idea for a one-time promotion if you ask me. A hat tip (or should I say helmet tip?) to the marketing staff at Purdue.
