A women’s basketball player from the University of Southern California has accused fans at Oregon State of targeting her team with racial slurs.
According to the Corvalis Gazette-Times, following Oregon State’s 69-63 victory over the Trojans, USC sophomore Minyon Moore tweeted “Oregon state thinks they have the best fans. … no you have racist fans. Calling players “you black girls”, “black b****” and “you n******” is unacceptable.”
Moore then called on the Pac-12, the Pac-12 Network, and the Beavers women’s basketball program to “address this.”
Moore’s tweets have since been deleted, but the accusation reportedly reached Oregon State deputy AD Marianne Vydra, who told the Gazette-Times that they are following protocols and compiling an incident report.
This is at least the second report of fans using racial taunts in division I women’s basketball in recent weeks. Missouri AD Jim Sterk accused South Carolina fans of similar bad behavior during a women’s basketball game in Columbia, S.C., in late January. South Carolina has denied those accusations, and called for a public apology from Sterk.
