Here's the pitch.
New York may get its first soccer stadium if a consortium of developers is selected by the state to redevelop the Harlem River Yards in The Bronx, according to a report.
Related Companies, Somerset Partners, and the New York City Football Club are proposing a 26,000-seat stadium (artist's rendering at right) as part of a larger Empire State Development Corp. plan to cap the 12.8-acre train yard with mixed-use development, according to the blog YIMBY.
The $700 million project would include 550 affordable housing units and a waterfront park.
The stadium specs were drafted by famed architect Rafael Viñoly. It is projected to cost about $75 million.
Under the proposal, the partnership would pay $500,000 per year for a 99-year ground lease at the site.
The group says it can finish the project by 2022.
NYCFC currently plays home matches at Yankee Stadium.
