The Miami Dolphins are going to welcome fans ā and their cars ā into their stadium this summer.
The Dolphins are temporarily turning Hard Rock Stadium into a drive-in movie theater, welcoming up to 230 cars for a variety of events. The Hard Rock Stadium website says that the drive-in theater will āshowcase classic Miami Dolphins content from the teamās 54-year history, classic motion picture films, host commencement ceremonies and other events.ā
The Dolphins have been developing the idea in order to help provide entertainment for fans and the public during the COVID-19 pandemic. Fans can bring their cars in, while food and beverages will be served through an online system and delivery service to comply with social distancing regulations.
Itās a fundamental human need to physically experience and celebrate events and experiences together,ā Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium vice chairman and CEO Tom Garfinkel said, according to the Sun Florida Sun Sentinel. āWeāre trying to provide options for everyone, where they can be safely socially distant and socially present at the time.ā
The Sun Sentinel reported the drive-in is part of The Outdoor Theaters at Hard Rock, which will also include an open-air, small group entertainment venue on the South Plaza. A Hard Rock Stadium renovation in 2015 and 2016 resulted in the facility having four video screens, one of which will serve as the screen for viewers in the South Plaza.
NFL stadiums and facilities have been shuddered much of the spring due to the coronavirus.
