Twins Address Attendance Woes with $5 Tickets

As attendance at Major League Baseball games continues to plummet, the Minnesota Twins have come up with a practical and effective way of attracting more fans to the stadium — lower prices.

Off to an unexpectedly great 23-12 start, the Twins have still struggled to attract fans, suffering one of the largest attendances drops in baseball. The remedy: $5 tickets

According to Yahoo Sports, the Twins held a flash sale of $5 tickets that included the rest of the team’s home games in May. The team quickly unloaded 20,000 tickets in the first round of sales and then made even more tickets available after that.

The initial $5 sale included upper deck outfield seats. The second round included Ballpark Access tickets to Target Field, which are basically standing room only.

The Twins woes are part of larger problem. As the early spring part of the season comes to a close, USA Today reports that 12 of 30 teams will draw fewer fans in March and April than they did in the same period last year. Fully seven of those teams saw attendance fall by double digit percentages. The Toronto Blue Jays saw a 33 percent drop annually for the two first months of the season.
