Iroquois Central voters turned down proposals for two synthetic turf fields Wednesday.

The vote was 836-772 against Proposition 1, to build a $6.6 million multipurpose field for football, field hockey, soccer, lacrosse and physical education classes plus an eight-lane track on the west side of Girdle Road.

The second proposition could only have been considered for approval if the first one had passed, but even more residents voted no on that one. The vote on Proposition 2 was 985-616 against building a $4.43 million baseball and softball field on the east side of Girdle Road.
