The University of Pennsylvania's historic Franklin Field has completed a massive renovation at the horseshoe end of the stadium, one that will serve current and future student-athletes and coaches across the football program. The lead gift to the project was given by Paul and Moya Coulson PAR'21; Penn Athletics is deeply thankful for the Coulson Family's generosity and support for its student-athletes.

Beginning in December of 2022, the stadium underwent a significant renovation of the football locker room. The goal was to create top-of-the-line locker rooms, meeting rooms, and connected spaces worthy of the championship traditions of Penn Football. Through the support of and transformational gifts from Penn football alumni and Friends of the Program, the University's project partners have created a space that enhances the experience of Penn's student-athletes. Additionally, it provides Penn coaches with top-notch facilities which will boost the recruiting profile of Penn Athletics.

"We are so excited to open this world-class facility for our student-athletes," said Alanna Shanahan, the T. Gibbs Kane, Jr. W'69 director of Athletics and Recreation. "This complex will be a differentiator for our football program, and we are so grateful to the individuals who turned this dream into a reality." [Penn Athletics]

The University of Jamestown Athletic Department announced the construction of a new indoor golf practice facility inside the Larson Center on the campus.

The press release says the Worner Family Golf Center will include four hitting bays, a team study room, lounge area, regripping station, locker rooms, coach’s office and a nearly 2,000-square-foot putting complex.

The $250,000 donation for the project is from Tammy and Leo Worner, whose son, Jackson, and daughter, Tori, are on the university’s golf team. Jackson is a senior and Tori is a freshman. The Worners said they made the donation in appreciation of Jackson's development at the university. [The Jamestown Sun]

The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees has taken action toward the construction of a new on-campus gymnasium that could be in place as soon as late 2025.

Board members approved a design for the building and approved a motion to authorize KC president George Evans to solicit bids for the construction of the new gym. Evans says school officials hope to hold a bid opening no later than August and to start construction within 30 to 45 days after the bid opening.

“We’re looking to break ground as soon as possible after the bids come in and are approved by the board, with the goal of getting in there for athletic events either late 2025 or spring of 2026. We are obviously going to do the best that we can to try to get in there November or December of 2025, but you never can tell with weather (and) different scenarios.”

The new gymnasium is expected to cost approximately $13 million to $13.5 million, which will be covered by a combination of funding sources including bond money, Protection Health and Safety funds and the college’s cash reserves. The gym will have a seating capacity of around 1,400, which is slightly more than the current gym holds. Evans says the new facility will create more opportunities for KC athletics and for events such as career fairs and will be a noticeable upgrade over the current gym. [Southern Illinois Now]
