Calcasieu Parish in Louisiana has been granted $11 million in FEMA funds, a portion of which will go toward repairs to a local high school's gymnasium that damaged during a hurricane.
According to KPLC, $8 million will go to the replacement of the DeQuincy High School Gym which has been in a state of disrepair since Hurricane Laura passed through the area, along with more strong storms on April 10.
The funding is earmarked as follows:
- $8,248,844.55 - Replacement of the DeQuincy High School Gym.
- $1,222,830.83 - Repairs to the Louisiana Department of Health’s Lake Charles Health Unit facility.
- $1,624,371.11 - Replacement of Moss Bluff Pentecostal Church man building and contents.
“Schools, law enforcement, churches, and hospitals are all pillars of our communities,” said senator Bill Cassidy in a press release announcing the funds. “This funding will help each of them continue their recovery from the storms and in turn uplift our state.”
