Mt. San Antonio College Aquatics Center

Walnut, Calif.
Construction Cost: $8.7 million
Area / Square Feet: 110,000
Occupancy Date: Summer 2023

Designed to replace its former facility, Mt. San Antonio College now has a cutting-edge aquatics center that serves the college and the surrounding Los Angeles suburban community at large.

The 59-meter, all-deep competition pool has two movable bulkheads, and the 30-meter shallow-to-deep teaching and diving pool includes two 1-meter and two 3-meter competition diving boards, a movable bulkhead for flexible programming, a heated therapy pool and seating for 2,500. The pools were thoughtfully planned and designed to maximize flexibility and functionality while minimizing downtime by featuring an oversized deck, separation of athlete and spectator spaces, and redundant systems for uninterrupted operations. Athlete spaces are positioned at deck level, with direct connections provided from the deck to team rooms, training areas and staff/equipment spaces. A new wellness center —with its indoor running track and weight and training rooms — is located at the larger, newly built sports complex.

The facility’s white metal canopies and sweeping rooflines gracefully invoke a sense of motion and fluidity, while the material and color palate blends seamlessly with established campus aesthetics.
