The City of Wichita operates a multifacility aquatic system and made an economical decision to convert the 1970s pool at Linwood South Park into an interactive, destination-style splash pad.
The park embraces a mossy stone theme with a custom water wheel spray feature and Euroflex balls. The water wheel was designed to represent the Wichita Hydraulic Mill, a notable part of Wichita’s history. Although the historical hydraulic mill was demolished in 1901, Wichita still cherishes its history. The splash pad utilizes the same original bathhouse structure with a new recirculation system. The new design of the aquatic space allows community members to enjoy water play at no admission cost.
Linwood South Park splash pad is one of 12 aquatic projects that Wichita completed after conducting a study of its aged aquatic system. The full project included converting four pools to splash pads, renovating six pools and constructing two new splash pads.
