Fundraising Friday: Gifts Benefit Practice Facilities for St. Bonaventure Basketball, Angelo State Golf

East Carolina University and the Pirate Club announced March 11 that TowneBank had made a $1.2 million investment to support the Pirates Unite Campaign for Comprehensive Excellence, with the funds committed to the proposed Isley Indoor Performance Center. To be located within the current athletic footprint for the benefit all sports programs, the center project has seen been the target of nearly $20 million in donations to date.

St. Bonaventure University alum John Deignan had previously allocated $1 million to the university in his estate, but inspired by plans for a new Athletics Performance Center, he decided to gift $500,000 of that amount now, the school announced Monday. The planned $15 million APC will impact all of St. Bonaventure's nearly 400 student-athletes and feature a 10,000-square-foot strength and conditioning center, as well as a practice gymnasium, new locker rooms, meeting spaces and coaches' offices for the Bonnies men's and women's basketball programs.

Angelo State University has received a $5.2 million gift from an anonymous donor to fund construction of he Angelo State Golf Complex, a state-of-the-art, 3,600-square-foot facility on the east side of the ASU campus in San Angelo, Texas. As reported Tuesday by the Odessa American, the building will house golf training areas, including swing simulators and hitting bays, as well as locker rooms, offices, restrooms and a 1,420-square-foot general-use area that will include a golf simulator. The general-use area will also have fold-up doors that look out onto an approximately 1,250-square-foot covered patio, 1,250 square feet of additional patio space, and the short-game golf course.

The seemingly steady stream of seven-figure gifts continues to flow into Murray State University's athletic department, with the announcement Wednesday that the school had secured $1.4 million from the Jim Bob Kevil estate and the former Racer Foundation. The investment marks the fifth seven-figure gift given to Racer Athletics this year.

The Brahman Athletic Association, a group of community members who feel compelled to help the athletic programs at Okeechobee (Fla.) High School. recently received a generous donation of $30,000 from The Altobello Family Donor Advised Fund. As reported Wednesday by the Okeechobee News, the donation will benefit the OHS swim program and allow it to purchase a new scoreboard, touch pads and other equipment.
