Fundraising Friday: A's Support Vegas Youth Sports and a WIFFLE Ball Stadium Gets Grant Money

The Oakland Athletics announced Monday that the team had donated $200,000 to various youth baseball and softball leagues in Nevada, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. The donation will go toward funding various needs including field maintenance and team equipment, the team said in a statement. The Aā€™s are in the process of finalizing plans to build a ballpark on Las Vegas Strip, with a goal of relocating to the Las Vegas Valley in 2028.

The University of Texas at San Antonio has received a $1.25 million commitment from The Greehey Family Foundation to support its Be Bold capital campaign, according to an announcement posted Wednesday on the UTSA website. The funds will be used to establish The Greehey Family Foundation Athletics Excellence Fund, which will provide scholarships to athletes who are first-generation college students, as well as academic services to ensure students are successful in the classroom. The Greehey Family Foundation has directed $250,000 of its gift exclusively toward football scholarships, while the remaining $1 million commitment will be spread across several key areas, including scholarships, academic services, and health and wellness programs.

Nationwide mobile carrier T-Mobile announced Thursday that the latest round of Hometown Grant recipients includes Nathan and Nicole Ensminger, owners of District 142 in El Dorado, Kan. According to the Times-Gazette serving Butler County, the couple will use the $50,000 to expand lots behind District 142 and to build District Stadium, a WIFFLE ball venue that will include a space for concessions, a small entertainment stage and a playground for kids.
