Leaks in the snow gutter system at U.S. Bank Stadium, the new home of the Minnesota Vikings, have caused water damage that will require up to $4 million in repairs.
The leaks caused water to collect behind the stadium siding, and according to contractors, fixing it will be a big operation.
āIt will be very visible to folks,ā John Wood, vice president of Mortenson Construction, told Minneapolis CBS-affiliate WCCO. āPeople will be seeing us taking the metal panels off the building, doing the repairs behind it, and then replacing them.ā
The stadiumās snow gutter system is designed to catch snow as it slides off the steep roof, where heated gutters melt the snow. From there, the resulting water is drained out.
According to Wood, the gutter problem is a big setback, but is fixable.
āItās not going to delay the completion of the project,ā he said. āWeāve got enough time to do the repair between now and opening day.ā
30 percent of the panels that circle the top portion of the stadium will be removed so that workers can install new vapor barriers. U.S. Bank Stadium logos will also have to be removed as part of the repair process.
