Parrot Cove Water Park

Garden City, KS 2018

Project Description

Guests of all kinds

Attached to a new hotel, Parrot Cove was created as a year-round public indoor water park destination open to travelers and local families alike. Creative use of multiple pools and features ties each pool to the next while still maintaining separate systems for each. Bulkhead walls between pools also allow for quick changes in depth for preferred amenities such as the climbing wall or the shallow wading pool. The park also offers a snack shop, an arcade and party rooms.

Cohesive theme

Parrot Cove provides a cohesive tropical island theme throughout. Columns and park lights are wrapped in faux palm bark and disguised with palm fronds. Walls are painted with three-dimensional murals to showcase the snack shop, party room and arcade areas. From the lounge chairs to the floatables to the play structure and sprays, everything was designed and selected with the Parrot Cove theme in mind.

Maximizing space

Beyond the thematic, Parrot Cove was designed for maximum use of space. Four pools offer different experiences for patrons, and four major slides run from indoors through the outdoors and back in, giving guests a unique thrill while creating an eye-catching site from the freeway. A wading pool with cheerful tropical characters is a hit for younger family members, while the lazy river travels through the full perimeter of the park, providing users channels, waterfalls, waves and interaction with deck sprayers. Building walls and footings were set prior to pool installation, creating a set of challenges during the design and construction phase to maximize pool space without disturbing centrally located support columns. As a result, pools were thoughtfully placed to where columns could be disguised inside pool features such as the rockscape, the palm tree basketball column and the split for the action channel.
