Liberty University announced plans to build the Liberty Multipurpose Center, a new multi-use indoor facility that will benefit the university’s NCAA, club and intramural sports programs.
The private Christian university in Lynchburg, Virginia, recently submitted construction plans to the city for the 75,000-square-foot facility that is scheduled to open during the summer of 2022. According to a news release, the facility will be constructed directly behind the recently opened Liberty Indoor Tennis Center.
The Liberty Flames' baseball, softball, men’s and women’s soccer, and women’s lacrosse programs will reap the largest benefits.
The space will include batting cages, divided curtains to split the facility into small workout spaces, and ample room for Liberty’s strength and conditioning teams to work with student-athletes.
The new indoor facility will also house storage space, public restrooms, and a lobby area. The surface will not be lined for a single sport, but rather will have tick marks on the turf resulting in great flexibility when moving from one sport’s practice session to another.
Bryant & Stratton College unveiled a more than $2 million expansion and renovation it recently completed at its Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, campus, which features a 7,000-square-foot athletic training center and esports arena. Construction began in March of 2020 and finished in mid-September, the Milwaukee Business Journal reported.
The new athletic center includes a weight room, batting tunnels, yoga equipment and cardio areas. The center will also have 10 athletic officers to support the staff of about 56 personnel and new men's and women's locker rooms. The training room will have a trainer on site to assist with everything from rehab to regular muscle maintenance.
The campus also created a media center for team film study, signing days and other events. The esports arena has about 20 gaming machines for esports teams.

Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina, is planning for a new indoor football practice facility, which will be located next to Brooks Stadium. The projected cost of the approved capital project is $15 million, which will be funded by private donations, the university said. In early May, Coastal’s board of trustees approved a motion to request a land transfer from the Coastal Educational Foundation to the University that will facilitate the project.
