Penn Volleyball Season Nixed Over Locker Room Posters

After the discovery of “vulgar, offensive and disrespectful” posters in the women’s volleyball locker room, the University of Pennsylvania has canceled the remainder of the team’s season. 

In a news release, the school announced that the team would not travel to their final two contests of the season. 

“The behavior exhibited by our women’s volleyball student-athletes is simply unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” athletic director Dr. M. Grace Calhoun said. “We expect our student-athletes to represent the University of Pennsylvania in a first-class and respectful manner at all times, and in this case, our women’s volleyball student-athletes did not meet that standard. We have reviewed the matter with the appropriate University partners and will determine additional steps in the coming days and weeks.” 

Details of the content on the signs were not made immediately available. 

According to the Washington Post, the Penn volleyball program has faced controversy since it named Iain Braddak its head coach in April 2018. Eight players filed grievances with the athletic department over Braddak’s alleged conduct, though the University has said that its decision to end the season is in no way connected to those grievances.
