 In March 2014, students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison approved a $223 million referendum to overhaul the campus recreation facilities, badly in need of improvement. The school’s current facilities are outdated, overcrowded and behind national standards for amount of fitness space per student. UW-Madison sits behind its peer institutions in the Big Ten, despite the overwhelming amount of students who participate in its programs and facilities each year. Since March 2014, the recreation program has been busy planning, fundraising, vetting architects and much more. Alex Peirce, UW-Madison Rec Sports Coordinator of Marketing and Communications, offers an inside look at the process of coordinating such a monumental planning effort.

Alex joined UW-Madison Rec Sports in 2013 as the Division’s first professional marketing staff member. Alex studied both Marketing and Visual Communications at Indiana University, where she was president of the IU Swim Club and a group fitness instructor for the Rec Sports program. With a passion for promoting fitness and healthy lifestyles, Alex enthusiastically accepted the opportunity to combine her education and interests at UW-Madison.
