If youโ€™re looking for the fittest people on earth, you could do worse than venturing to Madison, Wis., this August. No, itโ€™s not that beer, cheese and sausage comprise the diet of champions but rather that the 2017 Reebok CrossFit Games (Aug. 3-6) have relocated to Madisonโ€™s Alliant Energy Center.

While Madison is a long way from the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., where the Games have been held since 2008, the community of athletes set to descend on the Midwest have lost none of their enthusiasm for their sportsโ€™ marquee event. With a little help from the Madison Area Sport Commission, Madison managed to beat out bids from 100 other cities across the country that would have liked to host the Games.

Athletic Business recently caught up with Dave Castro, the man who dreamed up the first CrossFit Games back in 2006. Castro talked about the decision to move the games to Madison, as well as some of the considerations his team took into account as they prepare to turn Alliant Energy Center, a five venue event complex, into the worldโ€™s largest CrossFit box.
