N.C. City Gets Approval for New Baseball Stadium

Andy Berg

The city of High Point, N.C. has the green light to begin the process of seeking bonds to finance a new multi-use stadium in downtown.

The General Assembly’s Joint Legislative Government Commission voted unanimously to approve the project, which will include a children’s museum, park and other spaces near the main baseball stadium.

High Point University has already raised millions in private funds to help build the stadium, according to a report in the Winston-Salem Journal.

High Point city officials say they can repay the money without raising taxes.

President of High Point University, Nido Qubein, called it a terrific day for the city of High Point. “It proves that this community believes in the art of the possible in spite of the obstacles along the way.”

Officials are shooting for a spring of 2019 opening for the stadium, which will host the city’s new minor-league baseball team. The stadium will also be used for soccer, football and lacrosse games, as well as concerts.
