Construction began last week on the new Memorial Hermann Sports Park, a human performance and sports medicine facility on the campus of Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital in Katy, Texas. A partnership between the hospital and Athlete Training and Health, the facility will provide care for athletes at all levels. The facility will feature an adult fitness space, a professional-style weight room, an indoor turf field, and outdoor turf fields for hosting community sports events. Northwestern University unveiled its new indoor practice facility this week. The 96,135-square-foot Ryan Fieldhouse boasts a regulation-size football practice field, locker rooms, weight rooms, and nutrition, medical and academic services for all of the school’s sports teams. Located near the center of campus, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Lake Michigan, the facility will be used to host practices, but will also host non-athletic events like galas, convocations and dance marathons. Regents at the University of Minnesota have approved a new privately funded wrestling facility. The plans call for a complete renovation of Bierman Gym, formerly the practice space for the men’s basketball team. With 7,500 square feet of dedicated mat space, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a 1,100-square-foot cardio room, the new facility is expected to open its doors in November. The space will allow the wrestling team to leave behind its cramped wrestling room, which it had used since the early 1970s. Source: GopherSports.com
Portland State University unveiled its new $52 million Viking Pavilion. The new home of the school’s basketball and volleyball programs, the facility also includes staff offices, and renovated weight rooms and locker rooms.
