Construction of the University of Nevada-Las Vegasโ€™ new Fertitta Football Complex has hit a snag.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, UNLV officials are delaying work on the interior of the second floor until additional funds are raised.

Athletic director Desiree Reed-Francois said Tuesday that the total cost of the project has risen more than $7 million since the project was announced two years ago, from $24 million to a total of $31 million.

The second floor will eventually house the coaching staff, which will remain at UNLV's current facility, the Lied Athletic Complex, until the work is complete.

โ€œUNLV has already raised more than 80 percent of the total funds, and we continue to work hard to raise the additional monies,โ€ Reed-Francois said in a statement. โ€œWe are only building to the funding that we have committed to this point, and that has meant necessary changes to the design.

โ€œThe core function and intent of the project remains unchanged, and it will be true to the purpose of the facility โ€” enhancing the student-athlete experience. Once the remaining funds are committed, we will add state-of-the-art offices for our coaches and other features.โ€

Once completed, the two-story, 73,000-square-foot Fertitta Football Complex will house locker and meeting rooms, a strength and conditioning center and a training room, among other features. It will sit next to the practice fields at Rebel Park.
