Facility Friday: Alabama's 'Crimson Standard,' University of Phoenix Stadium

The University of Alabama announced a $600 million plan to upgrade its athletics facilities this week. Dubbed the Crimson Standard, the 10-year plan calls for upgrades to Bryant-Denny Stadium, Coleman Coliseum, the Mal Moore Athletic Facility and more. Dates, final costs and details haven’t been announced yet, and all facility plans are subject to trustee approval — however, rough estimates say that Bryant-Denny Stadium will get a more-than $250 million renovation, and Coleman Coliseum will receive a $115 million facelift. The Arizona Cardinals unveiled new upgrades to University of Phoenix Stadium. The $28 million project was completed in two phases, each including upgrades to fan amenities. In 2017, club-level areas were upgraded to provide fans with premium bar access, new video boards and additional beer taps. The latest round of renovations included new lounge areas, called “The Tail Feather” and the “Bird’s Nest.” Club-level upgrades included new flooring, lighting, sound, furniture and restroom updates. — azcardinals.com

Marshall University is seeking “expressions of interest” from architecture firms as the school seeks to design a new baseball facility. According to the Charleston Gazette-Mail, the Marshall baseball program currently splits its “home” games among three different stadiums in the area — each presenting a challenge. One field doesn’t meet Conference USA regulations, meaning the team can’t play conference games there. Another is also the home field of a minor league team called the West Virginia Power that the Marshall team has to schedule around. The third field is more than two hours from campus. Purdue University’s planned $2.7 million renovation to the Brees Student-Athlete Academic Center was approved by the state budget committee. Plans call for study rooms, tutoring space, a study hall and a flexible classroom for student-athletes. — WLFI.com
