Facility Friday: Royal-Memorial End Zone, Texas High School Stadium

The University of Texas announced that it had selected Kansas City-based firm Populous to design a $175 million south end zone expansion at Royal-Memorial Stadium. The project includes a Longhorn-shaped balcony designed into the new seating areas, as well as new concession spaces and premium seating. It is scheduled to break ground in 2019. — TexasSports.com

Celina (Texas) High School is joining the ranks of schools in the state with incredible football facilities, as it was revealed this week that Celina ISD would spend $24.5 million on a new athletic complex. A 6,500-seat stadium will be built, as well as a weight room, a Hall of Fame walkway, an indoor multipurpose facility, a new locker room and a film room. —Dallas News

The University of South Carolina board of trustees this week approved plans to renovate Williams-Brice Stadium. Among the planned improvements are additional premium seating areas, new recruiting areas and more. The school is targeting a completion date ahead of the 2020 season. — Gamecocksonline.com

The University of North Texas will break ground next week on a new indoor practice facility for its football program. Powered by a $2.5 million donation from the Lovelace family, plans call for the facility to be built over an existing outdoor field. It will reportedly feature a 55-foot ceiling, an entry lobby and a recruiting lounge. — Denton Record-Chronicle

The University of Virginia announced a new master plan for athletics, which will include a new football operations center, a new Olympic sports center, three new natural grass practice fields, and a renovation of the McCue Center. The McCue Center has housed the Virginia football team since it was built in 1991. Virginia’s conference competitors have all either built or renovated their football facilities in the intervening years. The new facilities will be designed by ZGF Architects. — VirginiaSports.com
