The University of North Texas announced a new master plan for athletics facilities, called Light the Tower. The 20-year project includes a number of long-term projects, but short-term agenda items include a venue for soccer and track, an indoor practice facility, an expansion to the Athletic Center, and relocation of the video boards at Apogee Stadium. The University of North Dakota is preparing to install permanent bleachers inside its football practice facility, the High Performance Center. The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse held a grand opening Monday for its new Recreational Eagle Center. The $8.6 million rec center project added 9,000 square feet of weight training space as well as an activity court for soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, lacrosse or badminton, and brought in a variety of cardio equipment for students to use. — Lacrosse Tribune

Taylor Eighmy, president of the University of Texas at San Antonio, surprised UTSA fans this week when he announced on a radio show that the school would be building an indoor practice facility for its football program. On the show, Eighmy said the facility will be 110,000 square feet once built, and feature locker rooms, weight rooms, training space, a recovery lounge, dining areas and classrooms.
