Facility Friday: Villanova Hoops Arena, Miami Practice Facility

Villanova University held a grand reopening last week for its basketball arena, which in addition to receiving a $65 million renovation also received a new name — the Finneran Pavilion. The arena features LED video boards, a hall of fame, a club seating area, and more comfortable seats throughout the arena. — The Villanovan

FC Cincinnati released renderings of a proposed soccer stadium. The design still needs to be approved by the city, but the plan calls for a 25,500 to 26,500 seat venue, which would make it one of the largest soccer-specific venues in North America. Additional features include a canopy roof, which would cover all seating areas, and ETFE facades. — FCCincinnati.com

This week, the University of Miami held a dedication ceremony for the Carol Soffer Indoor Practice Facility. The facility is still under construction and is still raising money toward what’s expected to be a final cost of $40 million, but the ceremony attracted some 400 community and university members. Once complete, the facility will feature two practice fields, one 80 yards and one 40 yards, new football offices, team meeting rooms and recruiting space. — Bradenton Herald

Grand Valley State University announced that its Football Center located near Lubbers Stadium would undergo an expansion and renovation beginning immediately. Plans call for an expanded locker room, team meeting rooms/coaches offices and an athletic training room. In conjunction with the project, the facility will be renamed the Jamie Hosford Football Center. — GVSULakers.com

Western Michigan University held a grand opening last week for its new esports arena. The WMU Esports Arena features 36 gaming machines on stage in front of an auditorium with seating for 190. Two large projection screens will allow spectators to follow the action. — WMich.edu

Full Sail University announced plans for an 11,200-square-foot esports arena, which the school says is the largest on-campus esports arena in the country. Dubbed “The Fortress” the facility will feature seating for 500 fans, and will host the school’s competitive esports team, as well as collegiate and professional esports events. — fullsail.edu
