Facility Friday: GW Baseball Clubhouse, Duquesne Center Renovation

George Washington University unveiled a new clubhouse and training facility for its baseball team, dubbed Fassnacht Clubhouse. The $3.5 million, 6,200-square-foot project is the first permanent on-site clubhouse in the history of GW’s baseball program. It features a team locker room, coaches offices, a players lounge and an indoor turf training area. —

Randolph (Va.) College announced plans to renovate its Randolph Athletics and Dance Center. Among planned improvements for the $3 million project are upgrades to the gymnasium, locker rooms, athletic training space and an expansion to the pool. The building’s exterior will also receive a facelift. The building will be renamed the Michels Athletic Center in honor of Doug and Mary Michels Scovanner, who contributed $1 million to fund the project. —

Duquesne University announced plans to renovate the Palumbo Center. Among major features include a proposed indoor football practice and recreation space with a 60-yard enclosed field and track, renovations to existing basketball practice courts and dining areas, a sports performance center, new offices for men’s and women’s basketball and more. When complete, the upgraded facility will be named the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse to honor Duquesne basketball legend Chuck Cooper, who was the first African-American drafted by the NBA in 1950. —

The University of South Alabama received a commitment from the Mobile County Commission to fund part of its planned football stadium. The county pledged $2.5 million over 10 years, and will receive naming rights for the Center for Academic Success that’s set to be built on the second floor of the stadium. When built, the Center for Academic Success will provide academic support for all USA student-athletes. —
