Wichita State University’s plans to build a new Student-Athlete Success Center are moving forward. The 36,000-square-foot, two-story building will expand study and tutoring areas for all student-athletes, and serve as a base for the school’s track and cross country teams. The City of East Arlington, Texas recently began construction of a new recreation center and library. The $26 million shared facility is a first for the city, and will feature 47,249-square-feet of state-of-the-art library and parks and recreation services. Recreation elements will include a gymnasium, an indoor pool, a fitness center, locker rooms, a group exercise room, community rooms and outdoor amenities. — arlingtontx.gov

Texas A&M University will host its first outdoor track and field meet since 2004 this weekend, as it dedicates its new Cushing Stadium. The $39.8 million venue includes a nine-lane IAAF-certified track surface, with nine-lane sprint and hurdle runway inside the oval. The stadium will also host field events including high jump, pole vault, long jump, triple jump and shot put. — 12thman.com

The University of Southern Indiana unveiled its new Screaming Eagles Arena. The $27 million, 90,000-square-foot venue, designed by CannonDesign, will serve as home to the school’s men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball programs, and has seating for 4,800. — 14news.com

The University of Louisville has engaged global architecture and design firm Populous to provide an assessment of its athletic facilities. The assessment, which will begin next month and take about six months to execute.
