Three new athletics projects include a
college's FACILITYFRIDAYindoor portable turf field; a city's
redevelopment of a 79-year-old stadium; and
revamped fields and courts at a large complex
for a combination of sports:

The University of Maine at Presque Isle is home to Aroostook County’s very first indoor portable turf field.

The 120-foot-long by 103-foot-wide turf field was installed at the Gentile Hall multipurpose gymnasium.

A FieldTurf product called “EasyField” consists of turf panels that securely connect to each other using an interlocking knob-system, allowing for easy installation, removal and storage. Each turf panel is about 5 feet long and 3.5 feet wide and weighs about 20 pounds.

“Our new indoor turf field will be set up for the entire spring semester, providing a more natural practice surface for our spring sports teams that are hardly ever able to practice outside during the spring semester due to winter weather conditions,” Dan Kane, Executive Director of Athletics and Recreation, said. “It will also allow us to host intramural sports that would normally take place on grass or turf, such as indoor soccer and flag football. And it will provide our academic programs, especially Physical Education and Exercise Science, with a brand-new option for in-class activities. [University of Maine at Presque Isle]

The owners of Boston's new women's professional soccer team have submitted major renovation plans for their team's future home.

Boston Unity Soccer Partners LLC sent a project notification form to the city that outlines the group's plans to redevelop White Stadium in Franklin Park. The proposed renovations include a weather canopy with a leaf motif, curving staircases and balconies, a restaurant and a beer garden. There is also the potential for a geothermal well system to be built under the field.

The all-female core ownership group was awarded expansion rights for the National Women's Soccer League's 15th team in September.

A complete remodeling of Brewer (Maine) High School’s athletic fields that have been too wet to use for years is nearly complete.

Brewer High School's rehabilitated sports complex features an expansive patch of artificial turf that can fit two baseball diamonds and two rectangular fields that can host soccer, field hockey, football and lacrosse.

The 216,000-square-foot multisport complex also has five tennis courts and four pickleball courts.

Students will be able to practice on the turf, which was installed shortly before Thanksgiving, when spring sports begin in March. But, the complex likely won’t be completely finished until May. [Bangor Daily News]
