Two new assets are now open at a public junior college in Odessa, Texas.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Friday to open the new James Segrest Stadium and the outdoor fitness court at Odessa College.Â
The stadium complex includes a grand entrance with a box office, a state-of- the-art lighted track and field; terraced seating, picnic areas; grandstands; a press box; a multimedia scoreboard, concessions and restrooms.
Adjacent to the stadium is Odessa College’s Fitness Court, created in partnership with the National Fitness Campaign and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas.
The Fitness Court is designed to provide a workout in seven minutes and is open to the public. The outdoor gym lets people use their own body weight to get a complete workout using exercise stations. It was created for users 14 and over with all abilities in mind.
Construction on the project started in September 2021.

The NHL Arizona Coyotes confirmed Friday that the team is moving forward with a plan to purchase land in north Phoenix to build a new arena.
The 5,000-seat Mullett Arena at Arizona State is the Coyotes' present but temporary home.
The franchise moved there after the city of Glendale ceased an operating agreement that had the Coyotes call the Gila River Arena home.
In a tweet Friday, the Coyotes state the team is "fully committed to Arizona & hope to share exciting news with all of you soon. Arizona is home & the future is incredibly bright here."

- A project to create more parking spaces at the multipurpose Enmarket Arena in Savannah, Ga., would require millions of dollars in clean up costs first. The price tag on removing hazardous materials from the proposed lot is $4.5 million. The project would increase parking at the venue by 2,000 spaces. The money needed for the additional contaminated soil removal brings the cost of the Arena Surface Lot Capital project to more than $13.5 million, according to reports.
- Seven years since the project began, a $15 million recreation center has opened in Washington, D.C. Stead Park in Northwest D.C. is a net zero rec center, meaning the facility is designed to not have any negative impact on the environment. The park will make all of its own energy using solar canopy and geothermal wells. Stead Park includes basketball courts, a fitness center, a playground and a splash park.
