Kansas City Royals team leaders said the team plans to move to a proposed $2 billion ballpark district.
The new plan was announced Tuesday and renderings of the new baseball park site were released.
Part of the plans would add a pedestrian bridge that directly connects the T-Mobile Center and the stadium.
The ballpark district would include team offices, a conference center, corporate offices, a hotel, and residential and entertainment venue space. The project would also call for improvements to Grand Boulevard.
Voters in the county residents will soon decide if the 3/8th-cent sales tax that would fund the new facilities will continue. That tax would go to the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs’ stadium projects for another 40 years.
Team owners have also committed a $1 billion private investment to help support the entertainment district surrounding the stadium.
In Alberta, Canada, work on a new 18,000-seat arena in Calgary, north of the Scotiabank Saddledome has already begun.
A project leader said contractor crews have started the "infrastructure enabling" process. The preliminary work is expected to be finished by the beginning of April.
While the design work for the event centre complex developments are not complete, the city is preparing the area now to assure an orderly start on construction, which is slated to begin later this year.
Costing more than $920 million, the arena will be located north of the Scotiabank Saddledome, which has been home to the NHL's Calgary Flames for 40 years.
