The State University of New York at Plattsburgh has doubled the size of its on-campus fitness center since opening the newly renovated space in Memorial Hall.

Now more than 12,000 square feet of space, the fitness center —university’s key facility for varsity athletics and student recreation — on the first floor of Memorial Hall underwent a $30 million renovation.

Users will find a bright, strategically designed space with cardio equipment. Strength conditioning machines and equipment are situated off to the left, and the reception desk to the immediate left. A group fitness classroom is located off the cardio area.

There is also a two-story climbing wall.

MiraCosta College in Oceanside, Calif., has unveiled a new 40,000-square-foot campus gym. It offers features a basketball court, volleyball court, lobby, a coach gym with giant TV screen to watch film on, team rooms, classrooms, offices and more.

The complex replaces its previous gym built in the 1960s, and it is so much more than a gym, as it features a basketball court, volleyball court, lobby, a coach gym with giant TV screen to watch film on, team rooms, classrooms, offices, and more.

The complex also includes laundry facilities to serve both the student athletes and students struggling with housing insecurity.

More projects:

  • A $137 million, 10,500-seat professional soccer stadium being built in Pawtucket, R.I., on the Seekonk River is expected to be finished early next year, in time for Rhode Island FC to play its second season in the USL Championship, the second tier of American professional soccer. Pawtucket said this week that the city had sold $54.3 million in bonds to complete the financing of the stadium.
  • The Hubbard (Ohio) Board of Education is working with the Hubbard Youth Coalition to renovate the Roosevelt gym, which was formerly Roosevelt Elementary School, into a community wellness center. Renovations will include emptying out the remaining classrooms, adding batting cages and pitching machines, eliminating a set of bleachers and installing high impact-resistant drywall.
