International architecture studio HOK has unveiled the latest designs for an open-air stadium for the New York City Football Club in Queens.

Located adjacent to the New York Mets' Citi Field, the 25,000-seat, soccer-specific stadium will be the first in the sports league to run completely on electricity, and was designed to highlight the diversity of the borough, sometimes referred to as "the world's borough."

"Our design team has created a sustainable, technology-driven experience and integrated the stadium into the context of a future district," HOK principal and senior project designer Rashed Singaby told Dezeen.

"Our goal is to establish a connected urban amenity for the community and an unprecedented live event experience. We're looking forward to the stadium becoming a centerpiece for the vibrant Queens community." [dezeen]

When you enter the gates to M&T Bank Stadium, you are greeted with construction equipment, dust and the sound of buzzing saws. The controlled chaos currently requires all who enter to wear hard hats, safety goggles and construction vests.

By the time the season arrives, for a lucky few, the entrance through those gates will be a step into luxury.

The Ravens are at the start of a three-year renovation of the stadium, funded by the state. Much of the first phase of the $430 million in renovations is focused on upgrading the “premium” areas — but regular ticket holders will get to enjoy a new two-level beer hall. Fans can expect to see the biggest changes in 2025, and the renovations will continue into 2026. [The Baltimore Banner]

Archinect has received photos of the new Populous-designed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in Long Island, New York, as it prepares to host games of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup cricket tournament next month.

The modular, 34,000-seat stadium was built with reused portions of the grandstands made for the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix last November, adding its Australian dropped-in pitch after being cultivated in Florida to complete the design along with media suites and 80,000 square feet of hospitality areas. Work began in January. [Archinect]
