The Olean (N.Y.) City School District will mark the completion of the latest capital project phase on Friday with a ceremony at the new Olean Intermediate Middle School turf field complex.
The public is invited to the official opening at 1:30 p.m. at the middle school, 401 Wayne St., where officials will cut the ribbon at the fields and playground facility.
Voters approved the original $24.8 million capital project on March 10, 2020 — a week before widespread shutdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Of this $24.8 million, approximately $5 million was included for a multipurpose turf field project, explained Jenny Bilotta, Business Administrator. [Olean Times Herald]

The current rec center opened back in 1972. Even though it's in good condition, it just can't handle the amount of people going through it nowadays. The city says more than 150,000 visitors have used the Recreation Center so far this year, and more than 14,000 people attended classes and programs there.
